When you’re planning out your new custom home here in Florida, your plans most likely include a garage. We don’t have basements here, so building a bonus room may be your best idea. But some lots limit the size of the house, or perhaps your builder doesn’t really have ideas for creating an extra area in your home.
Well the good news is you can build a bonus room with garage space for no additional money. Most people like to pull their cars into the garage. But if you decide you don’t mind parking in your driveway, you might find the garage is the perfect bonus room you are looking. Here are some ideas for your “new” bonus room.
With your garage having a concrete floor, you don’t have to worry about large gym equipment. The high ceilings as well make it ideal. When the weather is mild, opening the door will give you fresh air and help keep the temperature moderate. If you are thinking about possibly using your garage space for this purpose, discuss this with your builder. They should be able to suggest ways to help keep your garage cool during the hot months so that its not unhealthy to be out there.
Amazing Game Room
If you are not the home gym type and have kids around the house, the garage may make the perfect game room. Plenty of room for a full size pool table, air hockey, darts you name it. Since the garage is usually set away from the bedrooms in the house, it will keep the noise out of the house. Once great suggestion if you plan to do this, is to have your floor in the garage professionally epoxy covered. Ask your builder if he has a company that can do this. When you have the floor coated it will cut down on dust from the exposed concrete. It can also add a non-slip finish and they look amazing. Of course if you decide to pull your cars into the garage in the future, the epoxy floor can withstand the hot tires on your car without damage.
Ok so lately people are calling these Man Cave’s or She Shed’s. Whatever you call it, if you need an extra room to hang out, watch the games and be loud, the garage might be the perfect bonus room. Again, ask your builder how to add AC and heat to your garage area so you can be comfortable.
No matter what you choose, your new house is going to be amazing. Having that bonus room might be what really allows you to enjoy your new space.
